A MESSAGE FROM THE STATE LIBRARIAN

DarleneStaffeldt Dear Friends:

Montana's two Professional Education and Employment for Librarians (PEEL) projects have made an exciting difference in Montana with both scholarship and stipend awards. From PEEL I, awarded in 2003, and PEEL II, awarded in 2005, seventeen Montanans received scholarships to earn MLIS degrees through distance learning programs accredited by ALA. In addition, six library positions were created through PEEL stipend awards to demonstrate the value of having professional librarians in public and school libraries.

We hope this website will serve as a valuable electronic resource for you. It contains information on librarianship as a career, including what librarians do and what they need to know. You’ll find links to library education programs around the country and about career opportunities at all kinds of libraries. We've also included interviews with some of Montana's professional librarians. We hope this information will assist you in planning for, or advancing, a rewarding career in Montana's libraries.

Sincerely,

DarleneSignature
