PEEL II 2007 Scholarship Winner

Mary Drew Powers Mary Drew Powers of Whitefish. Mary has a BA in Social Work from the University of Montana. In her library career, Mary plans to form partnerships with community groups, offer diverse programming, and share with other Montana librarians. She is the assistant branch librarian at the Whitefish Branch Library.

PEEL II 2006 Scholarship Winners

Nine Montana residents were awarded PEEL II scholarships in 2006 to attend the three-year distance program at the University of Washington's Information School.


Desiree Olson Desiree Dramstad of Deer Lodge. Desiree has a BA in English from the University of Montana. She became interested in the provision of library services to incarcerated people early in her studies at the University of Washington. Desiree is a librarian at the Montana State Prison.



Michelle Fenger Michelle Fenger of Ronan. Michelle received her MLIS degree from the University of Washington’s Information School in March 2009. She is the director of the Ronan City Library.


Brett Fisher Brett Fisher of Columbia Falls. Brett received his MLIS degree from the University of Washington’s Information School in March 2009. He is a technology librarian for the Flathead County Library system.



Nancy Hatfield Nancy Hatfield of Bozeman. Nancy received her MLIS degree from the University of Washington’s Information School in August 2008. She currently works as a substitute children's librarian at the Bozeman Public Library and part-time at Cottonwood Elementary School Library.


Stef Johnson Stef Johnson of Butte. Stef has a BA in English Literature from the University of Idaho. She is currently a reference and systems librarian at the Butte-Silver Bow Library.



Lee Phillips Lee Phillips of Butte. Lee received her MLIS degree from the University of Washington’s Information School in June 2008. She is the director of the Butte-Silver Bow Public Library.



Kathryn Robins Kathryn Robins of Billings. Kathy has a BA in Business Information Systems from MSU-Billings. Kathy is a reference librarian at Parmly Billings Library.



Megan Stark Megan Stark of Missoula. Megan received her MLIS degree from the University of Washington’s Information School in March 2009. She is working at the University of Montana.


Sheree West Sheree West of Whitefish. Sheree has a BS in Environmental Biology from Fort Lewis College (Colorado). She is currently a library technician at the George C. Ruhle Library in Glacier National Park.


Past PEEL Scholarship Winners

Honore Bray Honore Bray of Missoula. Honore received an MLIS degree in May 2006 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is currently the director of the Missoula Public Library.



Kathryn Holt Kathryn Holt of Havre. Kathryn received an MLIS degree from Drexel University in June 2006. She is currently a library media specialist for the Havre School District.



Judith Brown McKenna Judith Brown McKenna of Bozeman. Judy received her MLIS from Texas Woman's University in July 2006. She is currently the library media specialist at Chief Joseph Middle School in Bozeman.



Catherine McMullen Catherine McMullen of Butte. Catherine completed her MLIS degree at the University of Washington's Information School in June 2008. She is currently the Technical Services and Digital Collections Librarian for the Butte Silver Bow Public Library.



Kathy MoraKathleen Mora of Great Falls. Kathy received her MLIS degree from the University of North Texas in August 2007. She is currently the assistant director at the Great Falls Public Library.



Frederick Noel Frederick Noel of Polson. Fred completed his MLIS degree from the University of North Texas in August 2006. He is currently a librarian at the D'Arcy McNickle Library at the Salish Kootenai College in Pablo.



Sami Pierson Samantha Pierson of Libby. Sami received her MLIS degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in August 2007. She is currently the director of Lincoln County Public Libraries in Libby.
